課程大綱

This course develops students’ English writing through poetry and the personal essay. Students generate material through focused writing, study how writers make choices, share drafts in workshops, and revise their own work. Learning Objectives 1. Create a poem using deliberate choices in imagery, language and form. 2. Develop a personal essay that connects a particular experience with reflection. 3. Revise a draft to strengthen its structure, detail and language. 4. Explain a writing choice using examples from their own work. These objectives describe the poetry, essay, in-class writing and reflection work in the current Course Map.

POETRY Week 1: Focused Freewrites Week 2: Dream Writing & Six Word Stories Week 3: Intro to Poetry Week 4: Association, Juxtaposition, Turn Week 5: Personification & Details Week 6: Poetry Workshop; workshop draft due October 14 Week 7: No class meeting; asynchronous work Week 8: Poetic Devices; final poem due Sunday, November 1 PERSONAL ESSAY Week 9: Tension Week 10: From Situation to Reflection Week 11: Scene and Detail Week 12: Reading Essays; exploratory draft due Week 13: Cohesion and Coherence Week 14: Revision; workshop draft due Week 15: Voice Week 16: Precise Language & Cliché; final essay due Dates may change based on class needs; changes will be announced in advance.

評量方式

Poem: 25% Personal Essay: 30% Participation and Attendance: 30% Regular In-Class Writing: 10% Flexible Learning: 5% Assignment directions and criteria will be provided with each task. Follow the AI guidance for each task; students remain responsible for their own writing decisions and revisions.
