這門課想帶你用「影像」重新看見一件我們每天都在經歷、卻很少認真想過的事——工作。無論是在工廠、家裡，還是任何一種職場，勞動不只是體力消耗，還牽涉到時間怎麼被安排、規則怎麼被訂下來、社會怎麼看待這份工作。當一個人被要求做事像機器一樣準確，或者這份工作被貼上負面標籤，他會慢慢失去對自己生活的掌控感和尊嚴——這是我們第一部分要透過影像一起觀察的。 接著我們會問一個更尖銳的問題：為什麼家務照顧、性工作、高污染代工這些工作，總是特定性別或經濟弱勢的人在做？社會對這些工作的歧視，又怎麼讓做這些工作的人更難為自己爭取權益？我們會用早期跟現在的影像對照著看，找出這中間的脈絡。 最後，我們會把視角拉到台灣近幾十年的變化——很多辛苦、危險或長照相關的工作，現在多半由外籍移工來做。低薪、好配合，這些條件跟我們現在的生活方式有什麼關係？我們享受的便利，背後藏著什麼代價？這門課希望透過一部部影像，讓你重新理解「勞動」這件事，也重新理解自己跟這個社會的關係。 This course uses film to help you see something we all experience every day but rarely stop to think about: work. Whether it's in a factory, at home, or any other workplace, labor isn't just physical effort — it's shaped by how time gets managed, what rules get imposed, and how society judges a job. When someone is expected to perform with machine-like precision, or when their work gets stigmatized, they slowly lose control over their own life and sense of dignity. That's where we'll start, watching for these patterns on screen. From there, we'll ask a sharper question: why do certain jobs — like domestic care, sex work, or heavily polluting manufacturing — always seem to fall on people of a particular gender or economic class? And how does the stigma attached to these jobs make it even harder for the people doing them to fight for their rights? We'll compare older and newer films side by side to trace this pattern. Finally, we'll zoom out to Taiwan's recent social changes. A lot of exhausting, dangerous, or long-term care work is now handled by migrant workers. Why do employers here rely on this labor — and what do "low-cost" and "easy to manage" actually mean in practice? How does this connect to the lifestyle we take for granted? By the end of the semester, we hope this course gives you a new way to look at labor — and a clearer sense of how your own life is tied to it.
