課程大綱

This ESP (English for specific purposes) course is designed to cultivate students' ability to participate in critical discussion of topics or issues related to popular culture. In addition to enhancing students' vocabulary breadth, reading, and listening comprehension, this course puts emphasis on oral expression and writing. To achieve this, different multimedia materials including films, TV dramas, and animations are used to help students understand when and how to use language appropriately in various cultural contexts. In terms of principal contents, the course is divided thematically into 5 main teaching sessions that focus on important topics that are often explored in cultural products, including education, ethics, storytelling & characterization, and gender & sexuality. Ideally, the course aims to develop students' critical thinking and prepare them for advanced academic work in the fields of humanities.

評量方式

Attendance and participation: 30% (包含口說與寫作練習各10%） Joint exam: 20% 英文會考（閱讀與聽力) Final exam: 25% Final presentation: 25%
