This course teaches knowledge and practical applications in the fields of technology and business. Students taking this course will acquire intermediate to upper-intermediate English proficiency and basic knowledge of technology and business communication. The course content includes: fundamental technology and business concepts, key current technology and business issues, basic technology and business vocabulary, and a wide range of practical technology and business terminology. This is an ESP course at the intermediate level. All materials, handouts, and slides are in English, and the instructor uses English for at least 80% of class time, switching to Chinese only for important course regulations or when comprehension breaks down. The topics follow a single line of development. The course begins with the effects of artificial intelligence on creative work and the workplace, moves to the relationship between design and business decisions, and closes with accessibility and universal design. All three stages address one question: how design determines who is included and who is left out. Students in this class come from industrial design, architecture, cultural industries, and interaction design, so the readings take up the questions design practice holds in common: what artificial intelligence does to creative work, how visual language operates, how commercial goals shape design decisions, and how spaces and interfaces exclude the people who use them. Each text speaks closely to one discipline's concerns while asking students to assess positions from outside their own. Three workshops provide the scaffolding. The co

2%。 Writing and speaking tasks are assessed with a shared rubric of five dimensions across four levels. For writing, the dimensions are content and task, organization and coherence, language use, genre appropriacy, and revision and development. For speaking, they are content and task, organization and coherence, language use, delivery and fluency, and interaction and response. The English CV is submitted in Week 16 and revised after the individual conference in Week 17. The Writing component consists of two in-class writing tasks, each worth 5%, both completed independently during class; students may use generative AI beforehand to gather ideas and outline, but the in-class draft must be their own. Both tasks are resubmitted as revisions accompanied by the original draft, and the revision and development dimension is scored on the difference between the two. The Speaking component consists of three individual speaking tasks worth 10% in total. Their form varies with the unit and includes summarizing, pitching, and arguing a position; the requirements and assessment focus of each task are announced at the start of the unit. Quizzes cover the vocabulary and reading content of each unit. In-Class Activities cover the weekly worksheets, the listening tasks in the integration sessions, and classroom activities, including the Week 17 interview questionnaire and the Week 18 worksheet, each worth 2% of the final grade.
