課程大綱
This course introduces Western literature as both a tradition to study and a category to question. We will read influential works that have inspired a lineage of later writers while examining the works that have been forgotten in this tradition. Students are invited to practice critical thinking, make connections across texts and cultures, and develop the confidence to discuss complex ideas in English. Students are expected to complete readings, participate actively, listen respectfully, and take risks in developing their own interpretations. Learning Objectives 1. Discuss observations about a text using the vocabulary of literary elements. 2. Develop an interpretation of a literary passage using textual evidence. 3. Explain how choices in form and content shape a text's meaning. 4. Compare texts, influences, or adaptations, connecting their differences to historical contexts. 5. Respond to another reader’s interpretation and explain how discussion or rereading changes understanding.

【遵守智慧財產權觀念,請使用正版教科書,不得使用非法影印教科書】 使用外文原文書:否 Students will be strongly discouraged from using generative AI as a shortcut for language production, critical thinking, and independent projects. AI should never become a substitute for your own voice or judgment. This course is a place to practice discovering ideas and making choices for yourself, which matters more than quickly generating smooth (and ultimately lifeless) English.
