This course introduces the fundamental principles and applications of composite materials, with a particular focus on their roles in optoelectronic and semiconductor devices. Adopting a device architecture-driven approach, the curriculum systematically explores how material selection, interface design, and processing parameters collectively dictate the final functionality and efficiency of a composite system. The first half establishes a common framework for composites, covering matrix classifications (PMC, MMC, and CMC), chemical bonding characteristics, physical limitations, interface/interphase engineering, and processing-structure-property relationships. Special attention is given to polymer matrix systems in low-temperature processing, flexibility, and heterogeneous integration, alongside the optoelectronic properties of ceramic-type semiconductors like perovskites. The second half shifts toward multi-material platforms and application-themed modules, exploring how organic-inorganic hybrid composites realize multi-functional integration across advanced devices. The scope covers: functional fiber-based systems, advanced photovoltaics (perovskite solar cells), display technologies, flexible/waterproof white light-emitting devices (WLEDs), and smart active sensors/emerging photonic components. To bridge academic theory with contemporary manufacturing industries, students will be trained through English presentations and individual Q&A discussions to critically analyze industrial technologies and cutting-edge research based on material selection logic, interface mechanisms, and manufacturing constraints.
