課程大綱
This course is designed to: (1) strengthen students' previously acquired knowledge of English by reviewing fundamental grammatical concepts and sentence structures through level-appropriate reading materials; (2) develop reading skills through explanation of challenging vocabulary, phrases, and syntax, along with the analysis of fundamental writing techniques; (3) familiarize students with practical conversational expressions and enhance their confidence in cross-cultural communication; and (4) reinforce their competence and performance in listening, speaking, reading, and writing through consistent practice. In addition, the course incorporates the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support language learning. Students will explore how AI-assisted platforms—such as grammar checkers, pronunciation analyzers, conversation simulators, and personalized vocabulary trainers—can be used to enhance autonomous learning, provide real-time feedback, and improve overall language proficiency.

Grading Criteria: Classwork (including active class participation & class quizzes/activities) (30%); mid-term evaluation (35%); final evaluation (35%) Classroom Engagement & Professionalism: 1. Creating a Focused Space Digital Etiquette: To keep our environment distraction-free, please put away laptops, tablets, phones, and headphones unless we are using them for a specific activity. In-Class Conduct: During lectures, please maintain a quiet environment to respect your peers. We also ask that you avoid eating, sleeping, or using non-course materials during class time. Attendance in Seat: Learning happens best when everyone is present. Please remain in your seat throughout the session, including the periods before and after the break. If you have an urgent need to step out, please let me know. 2. Classwork & Participation Your classwork grade is designed to reward active participation. Please note that repeated disruptions or failure to follow classroom standards will result in a zero for that day’s classwork. 3. Assignments To ensure fairness and timely feedback for everyone, late assignments will not be accepted. Please plan your schedule accordingly to meet deadlines. 4. Attendance & Grading Thresholds Consistent attendance is vital for success in this course. Grade adjustments are based on "Incidents" (any combination of an absence, lateness, or a classwork zero): 3 Incidents: -10 points from the final grade. 4 Incidents: A failing grade will be assigned for the course. 5. Communication & Special Circumstances I understand that life can be unpredictable. If you face an extraordinary situation (e.g., medical emergency or official university business), please contact me in advance with proper documentation. Issues discussed and approved beforehand will be handled with flexibility and will not count toward the penalty thresholds. 6. Professionalism Bonus As an incentive for those who show exceptional commitment: students with perfect attendance and zero incidents throughout the semester will receive a bonus to their final course grade.
